Psychology isn’t only for psychologists. A few ideas from it can make studying faster and less stressful.
The spacing effect
You remember more when you review a topic several times with gaps in between, instead of all at once the night before.
Active recall
Close the book and try to explain the idea from memory. Struggling a little is what makes it stick.
The Zeigarnik effect
Our brain remembers unfinished tasks. Start a hard chapter for just 5 minutes — you will want to come back and finish it.
Teach it
Explaining a concept to a friend (or even to yourself) shows you instantly what you don’t understand yet.
Sleep is part of studying
Memories are strengthened while you sleep. An all-nighter often costs more than it gains.
