How to build a portfolio as a student (even with zero experience)

Careers Team EduBenchers·18 Oct 2026·2 min read

Recruiters love proof. A small portfolio of real work often beats a long list of courses.

Pick three small projects

Choose projects you can finish in a week each. For coding: a calculator, a to-do app, a personal website. For marketing: a social media plan for a local shop.

Write what you did, not just what it is

For every project, add three lines: the problem, what you did, and the result.

Put it in one place

A simple website, a GitHub profile or even a neat Google Drive folder works. Add the link to your CV and LinkedIn.

Add internship work

Real numbers — leads generated, sales made, people trained — are the strongest portfolio items you can have.

Keep it updated

Add one new thing every month. In a year you will have a portfolio most graduates don’t.
