About course

Everyone has stories: the ones we live, the ones we overhear, and the ones we imagine. Creative writing turns them into work that moves readers. It's also one of the most useful skills you can have, whether you want to publish a book, win a competition, write for films and YouTube, or simply write better at work. This course takes you from your very first line to finished, polished pieces, one practical lecture at a time.

What you'll learn

  • The writer's mindset: finding ideas, beating writer's block, a daily writing habit and reading like a writer
  • Core craft: voice and tone, show don't tell, imagery, rhythm, strong openings and endings
  • Fiction: story structure, characters, conflict, dialogue, setting, point of view, flash fiction and planning a novel
  • Poetry and personal writing: free verse, haiku, sonnets, ghazal-inspired poems, spoken word, personal essays and memoir
  • Writing for screens and the real world: short film scripts, YouTube and podcast scripts, plus blogging, content writing and copywriting
  • Editing, publishing and earning: self-editing, feedback, competitions and literary magazines, publishing in India, your portfolio and freelancing

Learn by doing. Every lecture has a short writing exercise on screen and a writing prompt to try afterwards. You'll see techniques in action through before-and-after rewrites and line-by-line breakdowns, written as a document on screen. You'll also follow the Thursday Page, a small writing circle whose drafts get better with every lecture: Ananya, a college student in Kolkata; Rohan, a working professional in Pune; and Farida, a homemaker and poet in Lucknow. At the end, two live projects take you from idea to a polished short story, and to a script, poem set or personal essay ready to send to a competition or magazine.

Who this course is for. College students, freshers, working professionals, homemakers and anyone who loves to write. It suits complete beginners as well as people who already write and want to get published or paid. All you need is a notebook or a laptop and the wish to write.
